98th DAY

98th day in Alaska, Cold Bay.....

thats it end of the alaska peninsula....

last day here... cold...blowing...snow....

...arrived in anchorage.. wow cell phone works...back to the real world and real road system.... Cold Bay, Shane, Molly, and Ralphie miss you already.

more weekend fun

King Cove, uptown looking back at down town and the harbor.
yard art, Bering Sea style.

looking out of the bay to the open pacific.

a trip to king cove our neighboring village for the weekend , below the two houses going up the hill is the church you may just be able to make out the steeple. such a pleasure to be able to visit with christian family, we were also able to go to church on sunday and worship and sing which was such a treat! the weather had picked up over night and we woke up to a winter storm, not that the wind hadn't woken me several times in the night. but hoovcraft couldn't run in the high winds, so we got to stay a bit longer and spend more time with the Lanhams.

we walked all over town, being late in the season and the fact that 3 problem bears just the week before had been delt with we were fairly safe. toured the cannery PeterPan they just finished their King Crab Season, these are some crab pots, Shane was glad to see his favorite crab boat that is on the tv show deadliest catch, time bandit, and we found a small fishing vessel in the harbor called the miss molly, on monday we planned to return to cold bay on the hovercraft but, they had maintenance problem due to the ice, so we were able to catch a ride on the crab vessel the Denali, a longer ride but we watched a movie and a half on the large flat screen in galley. that was fun. Mom was a little leary,(and everyone else for that mater) of the climb out of the boat onto the dock, which is a metal ladder covered in ice, and the reach and climb off the edge of the boat is interesting to say the least.
the boat Denali once in cold bay.

weekend fun

their time here is coming to an end so we will have them photo up at typical spots for fun memories... radar sight in the back ground
the bever moon up in the corner, we do have a few trees here, they aren't native, they were planted by the military during world war two time...

saturdays sunrise, a mixed day, sun, and snow showers. Missing home today, hope Chip had a good birthday.

last nights moon rise, i really need to get a camera that will take night photos cause it wasn't that dark out and the moon was amazing, we get very excited here when we can actually see the moon or stars...

Bear Evidence

these weren't too fresh so we followed them a bit...
and not too too big.... but a nice size bear....

oh and these ones were fresh!!
the snow evidently hasn't sent these bears into hibernation....

todays adventure

a large herd of caribou just out of town at the end of the run way, started the ride off good, dispite the rain and freezing rain pelting down....
